- Audience: Indigenous community members
The Indigenous Community Crafting Circle invites all interested Indigenous artists, creators, and learners to visit & create together in a community setting. Bring your current project or start something new with the art supplies we provide at the WLL. This program is a drop-in crafting space, but some weeks will have guided lessons for different art forms.
Supplies, funded by the Western Sustainability Impact Fund, include an array of beading materials (including patterns/templates), caribou hair tufting materials, porcupine quills, leather, craft kits, 2 sewing machines (B.Y.O. fabric), jewelry findings, and more.
Special Hosts: To be announced!
Pow Wow Fitness Class (6 p.m. to 7 p.m.)
- Audience: Everyone (Indigenous & non-Indigenous)
Hosted by Lisa Hill from Moccasin Flow, her Movement & Fitness class is her most popular offering! The focus is on increasing our heart rate while getting in a full-body workout. We move our bodies and spirits, marching to the beat of the Big Drum, incorporating steps and Zumba moves to get the energy flowing! Modifications to movements are offered to allow for all experience levels to get the most out of the session. This fitness class is open to ALL, so bring your friends!
**No equipment needed besides a pair of shoes to be active in**
Young Men's Pow Wow Singing Practice (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
- Audience: Indigenous male youth aged 14-25 years old
Hosted by Ray Deleary, this program is for young Indigenous men (14-25 years old) interested in learning how to sing and drum pow wow style in a competitive format with a focus on developing technical skills. Participants will be guided on proper form, drum beat, rhythm, vocal range, tone, technical components of a song and learning song types and purposes. No experience is necessary!
